INGREDIENTS NEEDED & NOTES
Apples – I use red delicious apples, but can use whatever apple types you have on hand. Fuji and golden delicious are some of the best apples to use for applesauce.
Lemon – Fresh lemon juice gives extra flavor and it complements the apples. If you don’t have fresh lemon, you can use fresh lime juice or just water.
Water – We need some more liquid to help the apples cook without burning.
Maple – I like light amber maple syrup, but you can use any type of maple syrup. You can also use honey if you don’t have maple syrup.
Cinnamon – I added a teaspoon of ground cinnamon for a nice warm flavor, or you can toss in a cinnamon stick while the mixture cooks.
Salt – I added a little pinch of salt to balance the flavor.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
(Be sure to check the recipe card below for the full ingredients list & instructions)
STEP 1 – Prepare the Apples
Clean, peel, and cut the apples in half from the stalk down, then remove the apple core using an apple core remover or small knives and cut the apples into chunks.
STEP 2 – Cook the Apples
In a large pot, combine the chopped apples, water, lemon juice, maple syrup, cinnamon, cinnamon, and salt. Bring to a boil over high heat. Once the mixture is simmering, cover and reduce the heat to low. Cook the apples for about 30 minutes on low heat or until the apples are completely soft and cooked through and the liquid is absorbed.
STEP 3 – Mashed or Blend the Apples
Once the apples are fully cooked, remove from the heat and immediately mash the apples directly in the pot using a potato masher for chunky applesauce. If you want it smooth, add the cooked apples to a food processor or a blender and blend until smooth. You can also use a hand-held immersion blender and blend directly in the pot.
TIPS FOR MAKING THE BEST MAPLE APPLESAUCE
