WHY YOU’LL LOVE THIS CHOCOLATE BANANA OATMEAL
- A perfect healthy breakfast and it’s not boring!
- It almost tastes like a chocolate banana dessert.
- The texture is thick and creamy.
- Oats are high in fiber, protein, and various vitamins and minerals!
- It is made on a stovetop! Simple, quick, and easy to make!
INGREDIENTS NEEDED & NOTES
Oats – This is obviously the key ingredient. For this recipe, you’ll need rolled oats or old-fashioned oats.
Banana – This oatmeal recipe is naturally sweetened with banana, so a ripe banana is the best!
Chia seeds – Add more texture and they help thicken oatmeal quickly! Also, they add a nice omega-3 boost too.
Milk – Any kind of milk will do, even plant-based milk, such as almond milk or oat milk.
Cocoa – You’ll need unsweetened cocoa powder. You can use regular cocoa powder or dutch processed cocoa powder.
Salt – Just a little pinch of salt to balance the flavor.
Cinnamon – This is optional. Cinnamon adds a nice warm flavor and aroma.
HOW TO MAKE THIS CHOCOLATE BANANA OATMEAL?
It’s so simple, all you need to do is combine all the ingredients in a medium-sized saucepan. Stir until well combined, then cook over medium heat for 10-15 minutes until thick and creamy. Make sure you continue to stir occasionally as it can burn and stick to the bottom.
Once fully cooked, let sit for 2-3 minutes, transfer to a bowl, and then add your favorite toppings if you desire. I love fresh fruits, coconut flakes, and chopped nuts.
If your chocolate banana oatmeal hasn’t thickened enough after the cooking time, remove the saucepan from the heat and allow it to rest for about 3 minutes and you’ll see that the oats will continue to thicken.
CAN I STORE THIS CHOCOLATE BANANA OATMEAL?
I highly recommend enjoying this oatmeal immediately, but if you need to keep it for later, here’s how to keep it fresh and delicious:
- Allow the oatmeal to cool down to room temperature before storing.
- Transfer the oatmeal to a glass jar or an airtight container.
- Store it in the refrigerator and it can last for up to 3 days.
